What is Breast Cancer??

This is the topic which I will be going to present on this Thursday.. Breast Cancer..

What is breast cancer? Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that may invade surrounding tissues or spread to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too. Breast cancer is a very common cancer in this world and it is now the most common cancer in the UK. According to Cancer Search UK, almost 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year. Most of these are women. Only around 300 are men.
Ladies and gentlemen, there are some risk factors for breast cancer such as smoking, drinking, and diet is linked to things a person does. Others, like a person's age, race, or family history, can't be changed. According to American Cancer Society, people who smoke more than 20 pieces cigarettes per day will be getting liver disease. The liver plays an important role in sex hormone metabolism by making binding proteins that carry the hormones in the blood. These binding proteins affect the hormones' activity. People with severe liver disease such as cirrhosis have relatively low levels of hormones and higher estrogen levels. Therefore, they may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer. In addition, obesity is also a risk factor for breast cancer. Recent studies have shown that breast cancer risk is increased by obesity during adult life. This means that obese people have higher levels of estrogens in their body. Some obese people may notice that they don't have to shave as frequently as other people. They might also have trouble to bring up their children.
Now, we know the causes of the breast cancer, let me share about the treatment of breast cancer to you. According to Mayo clinic, treatments can be classified into broad groups, based on how they work and when they are used. There are 2 types of treatment for breast cancer which is Local versus systemic therapy and Adjuvant therapy. Local therapy is intended to treat a tumor at the site without affecting the rest of the body. Surgery and radiation therapy are examples of local therapies. Systemic therapy refers to drugs, which can be given by mouth or directly into the bloodstream to reach cancer cells anywhere in the body. Chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapy are systemic therapies. Another treatment for breast cancer is Adjuvant therapy. Patients who have no detectable cancer after surgery are often given adjuvant (additional) systemic therapy. Doctors believe that in some cases cancer cells may break away from the main breast tumor and begin to spread through the body via the bloodstream even in the early stages of the disease. These cells can't be felt by physical exam or seen on x-rays or other imaging tests, and they cause no symptoms. But they can establish new tumors in other organs or the bones. The goal of adjuvant therapy is to kill these hidden cells. Not every patient needs adjuvant therapy. Recommendations regarding adjuvant therapy are discussed in the sections on these treatments and in the section on treatment by stage.
Now that we have a clear understanding of the causes and treatments of the breast cancer, let me share the prevention with you. According to American Cancer Society, there is no sure way to prevent breast cancer. But there are things all women can do that might reduce their risk and help increase the odds that if cancer does occur, it is found at an early, more treatable stage. First of all, you must be lowering your risk. You can lower your risk of breast cancer by changing those risk factors that can be changed. If you limit alcohol use, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy body weight, you are decreasing your risk of getting breast cancer. Women who choose to breast-feed for at least several months may also get an added benefit of reducing their breast cancer risk. Besides that, environmental chemicals that have estrogen-like properties such as those found in some plastic bottles or certain cosmetics and personal care products may increase breast cancer risk but it is likely to be very small. Still, women who are concerned can try to avoid products that contain these substances.
In conclusion, breast cancer is an irregular replication of cells from the breast which can occur in both male and female; but information about this particular cancer and the ways of preventing it are available for each and every one of us. I hope that each and every one of you will have a better understanding about breast cancer. Thank you.
